Hello Lovely,
I am so glad you are here.  Let me introduce myself, I'm Melanie but my friends and clients call me Mel.  I co-own Trends Salon where I am a stylist among a team of 7other talented hair dressers.  In March of 2022, I will celebrate my 20th anniversary here  at this salon!  

I earned a Cosmetology License in 2002 from the State of Iowa and I earned a Bachelor’s
Degree in Business Administration in 2007 from the University of Northern Iowa.  I love 
learning, and I continue to improve my technical skills with courses across the country.  When working with my clients, I learn about their hair type and texture and their lifestyle. My goal is to get you a style that looks great but also suits the pace of your life. 

 

There are many talented stylist in our community, what makes me different is my commitment to continual improvement.  While I do take classes to keep my technique on point, I also take classes on communication, customer service, and diversity equity and inclusion.   I want you to feel you have someone that is committed to you by making your experience comfortable and welcoming all while finding a look that works best for you and your lifestyle. One of my core beliefs is that every woman is beautiful. Each head of hair is unique with different colors and textures.  I thrive on enhancing each guests natural beauty.  While you are at my salon, you can look forward to a deeply personalized experience where you can relax and just be you.

When I am not working or with my family you will find me volunteering.  I am involved with the House of Hope; whose mission is to help homeless single mothers reach self-sufficiency.  I also volunteer with the Junior League of Waterloo-Cedar Falls, whose mission is to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women and improve our community.  The Cedar Valley is a wonderful place to live and I want to do my part in uplifting and improving my corner of the world.  My husband Ryan and I have two sons, and we are proud to be raising them here.  
 

One of my favorite things about my career is the opportunity to learn and 
connect with my clients and my community. I am married and a mother of two very active boys, so I completely understand the need for some personal care.
